Relocating to Malaysia

At Citi, we understand that moving to a new country can be stressful. With a global bank by your side, you can be assured that moving overseas will be way easier. At least as far as banking is concerned!

Upon your arrival, Citi can pre-arrange an appointment for you at a branch in Malaysia to discuss your banking and wealth management needs. We can also help to leverage your credit history in your Home Country to apply for a credit card in Malaysia.

A Global Concierge will advise you on the products available in Malaysia and assist you with the application process.

There are a number of criteria you will need to meet if you would like to open a Checking Account in Malaysia. You should be over 18 years of age and have a valid residential address in Malaysia. For the full list of conditions, click here.

Unfortunately, because of local legislations, you will have to arrive in Malaysia to open a Checking Account here. However, we can help to ease this process as much as possible by scheduling an appointment for you at a Branch of your choice upon your arrival to discuss your banking and wealth management needs.

Upon relocating to Malaysia, you can apply for a Checking Account by:

As a global bank, we believe that a Citi Client anywhere is a Citi Client everywhere. That is why if you have a Citigold status in your Home Country and maintain the required monthly balance, you will be recognised as a Citigold member all over the world. If you start a Citigold account abroad, your account opening will be at no charge. Simply ask for your Citigold status to be passported to Malaysia when opening an account there.

With Citibank Global Transfer, you can transfer funds instantly, day or night, between your accounts in Malaysia and your Home Country. The service is complimentary for Citigold members. Yes, the funds transfer is subjected to the Foreign Exchange Administration (FEA) Rules issued by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) which set out transactions that are allowed by BNM. For more information on FEA, please refer to the FEA General Guide. Alternatively please visit www.bnm.gov.my/fxadmin

To make international banking for our global clients even more convenient, we offer a special service called GVA - Global View of Accounts. GVA allows you to link your Citi accounts globally via online banking, so you can view your accounts in multiple countries from a single Citibank Online log in.
